About Nag Tibba
Nag Tibba (The serpent's Peak) is situated at the height of 3022 metres (9,915 ft) above sea level. Nag tibba is one of the Favorite weekend treks situated near to Delhi. This Trek can be done at any time of whole year. Nag Tibba peak is the highest in Nag tibba range in Garhwal Himalayas. Trek provides the bunch of amazing things like Himalayan Beauty, dense forest, Snow (winters), rocky terrain, flora and fauna and snow capped mountains from the top.
How to Trek
Day 01: Patwari to Nag Tibba Base Camp
Distance: 5 KMs (Pantwari to Base Camp)
Altitude: Pantwari (4642 ft) to Base Camp ( 7672 ft)
Time Take: 5-6 Hours
Trekking level: Easy
Water Sources: Carry 3 liters of water from Pantwari.
Pantwari is the village, which is the starting point of the trek. A very small village with the population of 1500 approx. Village offers you to buy some snacks to go up hills because you won't find any shop on the trail so buy here only and village also has a shop to rent tents, sleeping bags and sleeping mats.
Trail starts from the middle of the village and it is well marked trail till "NAG DEVTA TEMPLE", After heading forward trail become rocky but after a shot trek a motorable road come. Cross the road and follow the trail which leads to up hill.
A water point will come after 15 minutes from the crossing point, Fill your water bottles and put some water bottle as spare because the more you go up the less water points you will get. There will be 3 more motorable road crossing on this trail, after 4th crossing reach a small village. Take a route from that village which go up hill to Nag Tibba. Trail is so easy and can be enjoyed as the view of valley and mountains are amazing from that point.
You can find more sub trails on the trek, all the sub treks will lead you to same point but some are little steeper and the one we follow is easy. After some time trail will give you the second water body to remove your quest.
To reach base camp to stay overnight, take semi defined zig zag trail from water body that will take you to the base camp. Point will give you 180 degree view of mountains.
Day 02: Base Camp to Nag Tibba Peak and Back
Distance: 4 KMs (Base camp to Nag Tibba Peak)
Altitude: Base camp (7675 ft) Nag Tibba Peak ( 8530 ft)
Time Taken: 3 hours to summit and 5 hours to come down.
Trekking level: easy
Water source: carry 2 liters of water to make your esophagus wet.
You are not at your home, so wake up early in the morning because the chirping of birds can't allow you to sleep till late. After breakfast, identify the trek which will lead into thick forest area. Trail is well defined, but if the trail is covered with snow then it is little difficult to identify it.
We are an organization who take care of everything that's why we started our trek early in the morning because when sunlight comes on snow it become soft and become difficult to trek.
When we trek from base camp to Nag Tibba Peak, we will find the mixture of forest and open area. There are two open patches on trail and 4 steep climbing patches. The summit trail go up straight to the top. when you reach the top, you will see the curve ridges on your left. Walk little up to get a open patch of sloping downward on the other side of the mountain.
View from the top is terrifying and give you the opportunity to see some of the best Himalayan ranges like Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Srikanta and Gangotri. The whole trek is so amazing and these thing make Nag Tibba one of the best weekend trek.
How to make yourself fit
Nag Tibba trek is classified as one of the easy treks in Indian Himalayas but it become little difficult in winter just because of snow on steep patches.
Cardiovascular Endurance
Nag Tibba is a short trek and participant cover 17 KM on both the day but 11 kms on the second day require more stamina and good amount of endurance. so we suggest you to start jogging every day, almost 2 weeks before from the starting date of trek. try to cover 4 KMs daily within 20 - 25 minutes. It will take time to cover 4 KMs in given time but prepare your mind to achieve it. Cycling and swimming is also a best way to get the stamina and endurance to trek to Nag Tibba without any hurdle.
Strength
This plays an important role when you trek in Indian Himalayas. Nag tibba has lot of snow in the month of Nov to Feb, so we suggest you to strengthen up your legs with few exercise like do 2 sets of 5 squats.
Flexibility
It is not just a word to discuss, so many times you will find to use it as an asset on Nag Tibba Trek. Few of the exercise to make your body flexible like Stretch your hamstrings, Quadriceps, Hip flexors, lower back muscles and shoulders. These exercise you can do at your office as well or while travelling.
Workout indoors
If you can't go out and jog because of time and other reasons then follow this video and make yourself fit.
What to pack for trek
Basic necessities
• Trekking Shoes: Trek has some steep patches so we suggest you to take trekking shoes to make trekking easier for you. Regular Sport shoes is not suggestible from our side.
• Backpack (20 - 30 liters): A backpack with sturdy straps and a supporting frame. Carry rain cover for backpack is essential.
Clothing
• Three Warm Layers: The highest altitude of this trek is 9914 ft so you will feel more colder when you go up. So Keep 2 fleece layers and 1 padded jacket layer.
• Trek Pant: Take two trek pant, one to use and keep other as an emergency.
• Two Collared t-shirts: Carry light, full sleeved t-shirt that prevent sun burn on the neck and on arms. Carry 2 t-shirt.
• Thermals: Carrying thermals is all up to participants, as the capacity to bear cold is different from participant to participant but we suggest you to take as safety
Accessories
• Sunglass: Sunglasses is mandatory to carry as the sky is so clear in mountains and UV rays come direct without any filter
• Synthetic hand gloves: One pair of fleece or woolen hand gloves which is water resistant
• Sun cap: It is required to cover your head
• Woolen cap: Carry in winters
• Socks: Two pair of cotton socks as we prefer to change daily. Carry 1 pair of woolen socks in winters
• Headlamps: carry with spare batteries
• Trekking pole: Trail become difficult in winters because of snow. so, we suggest you to take it
Other
• Toiletries: Sunscreen, Moisturizer, light towel, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush and toothpaste
• Cutlery: Carry a spoon, coffee mug and a lunch box. we insist you to carry it because some of the people more concern about hygiene factor.
• Water bottles: 2 bottles of 1 liter
• Plastic covers: Carry 1 big polybag as a inner layer of your backpack and keep few small polybags to keep your wet cloths.
